2017 All England Masters International Champions
Alan (Angus) began his playing career In 1980 at the tender age of 13 at Wardle High School. After a short tenure on clarinet and piano, he moved on to complete his O level on alto saxophone.
With the rise of both woodwind groups and swing band, he played at the Royal Albert Hall on Saxophone in the swing band. At the same time Alan took percussion lessons, knowing that the swing band would not be continued after the age of 16 and he was lucky enough to also play for a second time at the Royal Albert Hall with the Brass band.
Gregory Pitts of Wardle and Leyland fame was Alan’s Percussion teacher and Alan secured a position with the brass band. During this time he performed on the bands Celebration record, was part of Britain’s biggest massed band at Wardle High School with Don Lusher and performed on Roy Castle’s Record Breakers.
He continued on percussion at A level at Hopwood Hall College in Castleton, under the stewardship of John Binns.
Alan stayed with Wardle Brass Band which became United North West Co Op band until the amalgamation with Milnrow Band and has remained there up to the present day. Alan is currently the longest serving original member of the band.
Alan is on the bands “Blast that Christmas music” Cd and hopes to be on the 150th year celebration CD this year (2019).
