2017 All England Masters International Champions
Penny started playing the cornet at age 7 whilst at primary school, and started playing for Lydgate Brass Band aged 9. Penny has since played backrow cornet for Mossley Band and Dobcross Silver Band, before joining Milnrow Band in 2003.
Whilst at secondary school, Penny made the move onto flugel horn, whilst still playing the cornet for Milnrow. In 2008 she undertook a Music Degree on Flugel Horn at Huddersfield University, majoring in performance, under the excellent tuition of Philip McCann.
After finishing her music degree, Penny went on to study Civil Engineering at Bolton University, where she obtained a 1st Class Honours Degree in 2013, and is now a Project Engineer for a local Structural Engineering firm.
Having sat on nearly every cornet seat during her many years with Milnrow, from second man down to third cornet (and everything in between!), Penny has now settled down on 2nd cornet and enjoys the challenges of the prestigious contests that Milnrow are privileged to take part in. Performing at the Royal Albert Hall and the British Open have been career highlights, which she is looking forward to again in 2017.
